Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 14, 2026
Adbusters Media Foundation (“Adbusters,” “we,” “us”) operates the Culture Shop at subscribe.adbusters.org (the “Site”). This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We aim to collect as little as possible and to be honest about the rest.
1. Who We Are
Adbusters Media Foundation is a not-for-profit organization based in Canada.

2. What We Collect
Orders and donations. When you buy a magazine, subscription, book, flag, tee, or make a donation, checkout is handled on Shopify’s hosted checkout pages. The information you enter there — name, shipping address, billing address, email, phone (optional), and payment details — is collected by Shopify on our behalf. We receive order details (what you bought, where it ships, your email and address) so we can fulfill your order and answer questions about it. We do not see or store your full payment card number.
Cart contents. While you shop, your cart and any applied discount codes are stored in your browser’s local storage on your device. We do not copy that data to our servers until you check out.
Approximate location. Our hosting providers (Netlify or Vercel) tell us the country your request came from so we can show the correct currency and apply regional discounts. We store that two-letter country code in a cookie called geo-country for one day. We do not collect or store your IP address for our own analytics.
Technical and usage data. When the Site errors out, we collect diagnostic information (browser type, page URL, error stack trace, and a session recording of the moments before the error) so we can fix it. We also collect aggregated behavior data (clicks, scrolls, heatmaps) to understand how the Site is used. See “Third Parties” below.
Email you send us. If you email us (for example about a subscription), we keep that correspondence so we can follow up.
We do not run user accounts, comments, or a newsletter signup on this Site. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
3. How We Use It
- To process and fulfill your order or donation.
- To send order confirmations, shipping updates, and respond to support requests.
- To apply the correct regional pricing and discount codes.
- To diagnose errors and improve the reliability and design of the Site.
- To comply with tax, accounting, and legal obligations.
- To protect the Site against fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for behavioural advertising or share it with ad networks.
4. Third Parties
We rely on a small number of service providers. Each receives only what it needs to do its job.
- Shopify — powers our store catalog, cart, checkout, and payment processing. Shopify processes your order and payment information under its own privacy policy at shopify.com/legal/privacy.
- Sentry — collects JavaScript errors and, only when an error occurs, a short session replay of the page. This helps us fix bugs. Sentry is operated by Functional Software, Inc. sentry.io/privacy.
- Microsoft Clarity — provides heatmaps and aggregated behavior analytics so we can see which parts of the Site are confusing or broken. Microsoft’s privacy statement: privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement.
- Google Fonts — serves the typefaces used on the Site. Your browser requests the font files directly from Google. policies.google.com/privacy.
- Hosting (Netlify / Vercel) — serves the Site and provides the country-level geolocation header described above.
- Shipping carriers — receive your name and address so they can deliver your order.
We may also disclose information where required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Adbusters, our customers, or others.
5. Cookies and Similar Technologies
The Site uses a small set of cookies and browser storage:
geo-country— set by us. Stores a two-letter country code used for regional pricing. Expires after one day.- Cart storage — your cart contents are stored in your browser’s local storage. This data stays on your device.
- Sentry and Microsoft Clarity — set their own cookies and/or storage to track error sessions and aggregated behaviour.
- Shopify — when you enter checkout, Shopify sets its own cookies on its own domains to process your order.
You can clear cookies and local storage at any time through your browser settings. Blocking cookies may break the cart or checkout.
6. How Long We Keep Your Information
Order and donation records are kept for as long as required by tax and accounting law (typically 6–7 years). Error logs and session replays are kept for up to 90 days. Aggregated analytics are retained in de-identified form. Email correspondence is kept until it is no longer needed to help you.
7. Where Your Information Is Processed
Adbusters is based in Canada. Our service providers operate in the United States and other countries. When you place an order or interact with the Site, your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in jurisdictions whose data protection laws differ from your own. We rely on standard contractual protections offered by these providers.
8. Your Rights
Depending on where you live — including under Canada’s PIPEDA, the EU/UK GDPR, and US state privacy laws such as the CCPA/CPRA — you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Request deletion of your information.
- Object to, or ask us to restrict, certain processing.
- Receive a copy of your information in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent where we rely on it (this does not affect processing already done).
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
We do not sell or “share” personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising as those terms are defined under US state privacy laws. You may opt out of Clarity analytics and Sentry session replay at any time by using your browser’s Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, by blocking third-party scripts, or by emailing us.
To exercise any of these rights, email info@adbusters.org. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law.
9. Security
We use reputable providers and industry-standard measures (encrypted transport, access controls, vendor due diligence) to protect the information we handle. No system is perfectly secure; if we become aware of a breach affecting your information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the Site evolves or the law changes. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be flagged on the Site.
